As part of doing business with ease in Nigeria, Advertiser’s Association of Nigeria (ADVAN), had their industry dialogue which took place recently at Radisson blu hotel, Ikeja Lagos.

Special adviser to the President for ease of doing business in Nigeria, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Lawyer & Activist Jiti Ogunye were the keynote speakers for the event.

Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency, LASAA; Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC; Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON; NAFDAF, APCON, Heads of Sectoral Groups, HASGs, were all in attendance.

This was the consensus by participants of the just concluded ADVAN Industry Dialogue 2022 theme “The role of government regulation in the ease of doing business in Nigeria” Which saw the congregation of the leadership of the various marketing communications regulatory agencies as well as top Nigerian Brands

Speaking on the crucial need for regualtory institutions to covet participation from the organised private sector Dr Jumoke Oduwole the Special Adviser to the President of Nigeria on the Ease of Doing Business, in her keynote adress said “ Government can learn a lot from ADVAN members, We have worked hard and implemented reforms but it is always a struggle as government to be really heard by the public, especially for positive news, collaboration with the private sector continues to make it possible for us to know where the shoe pinches and creates a constant flow of ideas for pragmatic interventions”

While She prevailed on advertisers (Corporate organisations that promote their goods and services through advertising) to support their various regulatory institutions, as collaboration leads to improved work and stakeholders need each other, she also called on the regulatory agencies to embrace perfomance management as a strategy for effectiveness. “Another key learning has been the need for strong performance management, which is critical to operationalizing reforms, and for agencies to ensure that the appropriate consequence management is applied for both performing or erring public officials” Dr Oduwole said.

Dr Fadolapo the Registrer of APCON during the panel discussion, explained that the new Advertising Standard of Practice was a means to an end, which he explained was to promote fairness and equity in the Industry.

Responding on behalf of Advertisers was Mr. O’Tega Ogra, An Executive Council Member of ADVAN, as well as the Group Head Brands and Corporate Communcations BUA group said “No Advertiser was against regulation, but that regulations should facilitate business.
