Brilliant, enterprising and a goal-getter. These three words aptly describe Omotayo Oyediji (Mrs), an excellent writer and reporter who has had an incredible career spanning over 10 years in the media sector, both print and electronic. The award winning journalist is currently the Society Editor for City People Magazine. She rose though the ranks, starting as a Research Executive where she operated as a business development officer for the company, before she was elevated to the position of an Event Manager where she handled over 200 major events and awards for the company. Her steadfastness and astonishing delivery on the job earned her fast promotion to become the Fashion Editor. This saddled her with the responsibility to organize top notch fashion shows to celebrate and recognize various individuals who are doing well in the fashion and beauty field. Shortly after, she rose to become the Society Editor for the Magazine where she has done a remarkable job mirroring the lives of top celebrities. This feat she achieved as the first female Society Editor for the company in the last 7 years.
Prior to her current position, she has worked with Biscon Communications, the producers of Bisi Olatilo Show where she was the Marketing/ event manager. She also worked in the banking sector as a Marketer before she was promoted to Small Medium Enterprise Department where she was the Unit Head, and was later transferred to the Business Development/Branding Department.
Omotayo Oyediji has also worked as a business Executive at Prislor Travels and Tours Limited, one of the thriving iata approved travelling agencies in Nigeria.… She has taken various courses at various business consultancy schools which have boosted her academic qualifications. Presently, she is the CEO of Roseberylevents Limited.
This very pleasant and brilliant journalist bagged her 1st degree in Industrial/petroleum Microbiology at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). She has an upper certificate in General Management from The Carrington Heritage School, (CHCPD) ,United Kingdom. She also proudly sits on the board of LTJ Funerals International, a leading funeral company in Nigeria. She is also part of the Media Committee for Arise Women Organisation.
Ever driven by a strong desire for excellence, she is a member of some notable professional bodies and associations with several awards in her kitty.
As part of her social creative ability, she was a 3-time Social Director for her alma mater, and was part of panel of judges for many beauty Shows being a gorgeously and stylish lady herself.
As one would expect of a lady with immense experience like she has on the job, Omotayo has worked with a handful of reputable journalists and has built robust work relationships with some big names in the society whom she interviewed in the course of her job. Without a doubt, this extremely knowledgeable and enterprising journalist has proven to be a shining role model and inspiration to many young ladies who have been told they cannot possibly excel in male dominated sectors. Tell us a bit about yourself?
I am Tayo Oyediji, a seasoned journalist and currently the Society Editor at Citypeople Magazine. I have had over 12 years experience in the media sector. I am also a business woman who runs Roseberyl Events Limited.
Which Women inspire you the most?
I have couple of women who i draw inspirations from. One of them is Mrs Ibukun Awosika, a woman of many first, a woman who stood strong in all male dominated careers and broke glass ceilings, I will also mention Mrs Funke Egbemode, her editorial intellect is second to none, she is well experienced in the media sector. She is one of the big names in journalism. Not also forgetting Mo Abudu, the CEO of Ebony Life, in the media business, she has been able to metamorphosed from one career to the other and pulled it off well. I will also like to mention Pastor Mrs Siju iluyomade, the founder of Arise Women, her heart of kindness to a fellow woman is superb. Its worth inspiring. I love the can do spirit of all this women.
As a business owner, how have you been able stand tall in competitive industry?
Competition in business keeps you grow. It is a norm. For me, I am competing with myself to be a better business woman, i provide legendary customer or client service and make sure I treat my customers/clients like royalty. I build a stronger relationship with my customers to keep trusting my brand with all honesty, honesty remains my main policy then I innovate, I come up with something new by adopting emerging technologies in terms of reinvention.
What’s the unique selling point of your business?
I put attention to every details vis a vis demonstrating a thorough concern for all the areas involved, no matter how small. This means monitoring and checking work or information, while organizing time and resources efficiently. Focus on all areas remains the key for me.
As a Woman, how have you been able to inspire other Women through giving back to the society through your business?
Ideas acquired is Idea shared. I make sure I facilitate healthy interactions within this limited network. I set up community networking events that can facilitate professional peer-to-peer connections which helps people to network and interact and which has helped me in building valuable new relationships as well. I try as much as to be a community connector.
What keeps you going when the chips are down?
I keep up an optimistic attitude, I stay focused on the positive, I don’t fixate on adversity. I deal with the situation by keeping communication open. I want to believe adversity is a measure of greatness thereby I embrace the challenge as an opportunity to demonstrate leadership.
This year international Women’s Day theme “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”. What does this mean to you?
The IWS 2023 theme to me means Women needs to be recognised in Technology. Women have a cycle of limited representation in the digital world of advancement so there is need to promote investment in the education of young women or girl. Reports have shown that women has a very low percentage in leadership roles in the areas of technology and science. Women’s recognition for their contributions will often not inhibits how they position themselves in these spaces. In short, Women needs to start interacting with technology so that they also can control a bigger space digitally.
Your own definition of Motherhood?
Motherhood to me is surreal. It is the best job in the world. Nurturing lives. It is a compassionate job. Motherhood means family, happiness, love and contentment. Though it can be overwhelming but will not surpass the ultimate joy of raising small humans which is so powerful.
Aside work, how do you relax yourself?
I observe my ‘me’ time and takes every work off my schedule. I relax mostly by listening to music. It sweetens and cools off my spirit. I also taking a nap or sleep.
Words of inspiration to other Women all over the world?
Women should be consistent. It’s not your job to be likable. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. Surround yourself with people and things that inspire you so that your world can go round.
