The annual “Do It Afraid™” conference organized by Omilola Oshikoya International is a wealth creation event focused on the psychology of an entrepreneur. The goal is to inspire millennials to fulfil their dreams, visions, and purposes by overcoming fear.  The conference is intentionally focused on business-minded individuals who out of fear, lack the will and conviction to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. Our overall objective is to create more businesses which will aid economic diversification and create more jobs to reduce the poverty gap in Nigeria.

The Nigerian economy has struggled since exiting the recession in 2017. The global pandemic and now the fall out of the recent End Sars protests and its effects have worsened its prospects. Huge debt burden, declining external reserves, foreign direct investments and remittance inflows, increasing poverty rate and inflation rate are some of the factors to consider.

Despite all these indices, this is an opportunity for Nigeria to reposition its economy through a committed national economic diversification drive and also leveraging technology. It is an opportunity for national transformation.

The theme for this year’s conference is “A VOLCANIC TRANSFORMATION”. A dormant Volcano suddenly erupts when there is enough pressure, stretching and thinning of the earth crust’s plates. Even though a Volcano is seen to disrupt, it actually causes transformation one of which is that volcanic materials mixed in with the soil provides a lot of important nutrients and provides really fertile soil which has produced abundant food and fostered civilizations.
The effect of the Covid-19 pandemic and the End Sars protests can be described as a volcanic eruption highlighting the hidden issues in the economy of the country.

It is time to look inward and harness our dormant competitive advantage such as a burgeoning young and entrepreneurial population, strategic geographic location as a hub for Africa, large consumer market, natural resources, underused arable land etc.

History has proven that economic recessions provide opportunities to create wealth, to think out of the box, and to tap into the hidden potential and resources present as individuals, a corporate organizations and even as a nation.
This is the time for Nigeria to look beyond the oil we have in abundance and develop other sectors that will transform the economy of Nigeria and impact the world. We need to shed away the old ways and adopt digitalized economy.  In order to guarantee future growth, we must evolve through digital transformation in all sectors of the economy.  According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), more than 60 per cent of global GDP will be digitalized by 2022.
This year’s conference is a call to us as individuals and as a nation to look inward and rebuild the economy of this country once again as we rewrite the economic history of Nigeria in what can be termed as “A VOLCANIC TRANSFORMATION” .
The conference is organized not just to inspire individuals to fulfil their dreams but to also encourage them in the process especially in a tough economic terrain. Successful individuals in different fields who are thriving in their respective industries will be sharing their individual stories and journey to success. We will have real conversations and attend to deep seated questions that will spark meaningful engagements.
